Edit files in Code mode

Open, create, rename and remove project files, then test a change.

On this page

Steps

  1. Open a project from Projects and choose Code.
  2. In Files, select a file to open it in the editor.
  3. Make a small edit. Use Run or Ctrl+Enter (Cmd+Enter on Mac) to build it.
  4. Read Problems and Console, then play the preview.
  5. Choose Save or Ctrl+S (Cmd+S on Mac), review the changes and confirm.

Add or reorganise files

  1. In Files, choose New file.
  2. Enter a path including a file name, such as src/enemies.ts, then choose Create file.
  3. To move or rename an existing file, open it, choose Rename, enter its new path and confirm.
  4. Check code that refers to the old path and update those references as needed.
  5. To remove a file, choose Delete and confirm. Saved checkpoints keep earlier copies.
  6. Run and save after reorganising.

Files with special rules

Keep llvls.json at the project root. The build owns llvls.lock.json, so it cannot be edited as a normal file. Add images and sounds through Assets.

If editing is unavailable

Wait for an assistant request to finish, or follow the message about another tab changing the project. If the full code editor fails to load, a plain text editor may appear; reload when safe to retry the full editor.

Still stuck?

Email support@4rc4d3.com with the project or game name, if relevant, the action you tried and the exact error. Never include passwords, authenticator codes, backup codes or AI keys.
