Add background music and edit moods
Create generated music, connect it to your game and tune its moods.
Before you start
The Music panel must support your game’s engine. Save a checkpoint before adding music files.
Steps
- Open Assets > Music.
- If the project has no music, choose Add music.
- Read the result. This adds the mood engine, a first mood and the required libraries when it can do so safely.
- Open
src/music.tsand follow its integration instructions. The panel describes callingstartMusic()afterllvls.ready(), thenplayMood('calm'). - Include the file’s pause and mute handling in your integration.
- In Music, choose Play to hear a mood or Edit to change it.
- Use Start from, then adjust key, mode, tempo, chords and layers. Changes go into the displayed file as you make them.
- Use New mood to add another named mood and connect it to the relevant gameplay state.
- Run the actual game, check transitions, pause and mute, then save.
What happens next
The game generates music while it runs rather than loading a recorded music file. The designer preview helps audition a mood, but the game must call the music functions to use it.
If Add music changes nothing
Read the message about existing files, an unreadable manifest or an unsupported engine. Do not overwrite custom music files blindly. If the panel says your engine file differs, test in the game because its sound may differ from the designer preview.
