Create and edit sound effects

Use the Sounds designer to make effects and keep them in your game.

On this page

Steps

  1. Open Assets > Sounds.
  2. Choose Play beside an existing sound to hear it, or select New sound.
  3. If creating a named sound in a supported sound list, enter a unique name and use the offered Add to action.
  4. Open the sound’s editor.
  5. Choose a Start from preset such as Pickup, Jump or Hit.
  6. Adjust volume, pitch, envelope or effects. Use Vary to try a variation and Play to compare.
  7. Check the message that says where changes are written.
  8. Run the game and trigger the sound in its actual gameplay context.
  9. Save a checkpoint.

If the sound is a scratch sound

If the screen says the sound is not in your code, choose Copy as code and add it to the game’s sound code before leaving. Previewing it in the designer does not keep it in the project.

The designer edits supported sound-number lists. When the game has no readable SOUNDS list, use the code editor to integrate the copied effect.

If it will not play

Check the browser’s audio message. If the designer reports that the sound is too long, shorten its envelope or delay. If the list cannot be read, preserve the expected plain-number format or edit the sound in code.
