Use or replace your backup codes

Use a code to sign in

1. Sign in with your email and password.
2. At the authenticator step, choose Use a backup code instead.
3. Enter one unused backup code and continue.
4. Once signed in, open Account > Security and check how many codes remain.

Each backup code works once. It may also be used for a security confirmation that offers the backup-code option.

Replace your codes

1. In Account > Security, find Backup codes.
2. Choose Make new codes.
3. Complete the security confirmation when requested.
4. Read the warning that the old set stops working, then confirm.
5. Copy or download the new set. It is shown once.
6. Choose I’ve saved them after keeping the new codes safely.

What happens next

The new set replaces the old one immediately. Replace any old saved copy so you do not try to use cancelled codes later.

Keep backup codes somewhere you can reach if your phone is unavailable. If you have lost both your authenticator and all unused backup codes, use account recovery.
